KINGSTON BOOKSHOP is a conscientious nation builder primarily through
its support of the education sector and assistance to positive efforts
within the communities in which they operate. This is manifested by
the company’s maintenance of:
-
inner-city secondary level students on full scholarships
(now up to sixth form)
-
summer jobs. The company employes over 150
students ever year.
-
tertiary level scholarships for teachers on a
biennial basis.
-
on-going support of media programmes like Schools
Challenge Quiz, its sister programme Junior Challenge, the Scripps
Howard Spelling Bee Competition and the very popular summer offering
Back to School Vibes .
-
the Schools Library Upgrade Programme which facilitates
the provision of student-friendly libraries for some schools. Schools
benefited so far are Islington High in St Mary, Muschette Comprehensive
in Trelawny, Norman Manley Hig in Kingston and McGrath High in St. Catherine.
A special $8.5m education initiative was launched to mark the company’s
30th anniversary in 2004. Under this initiative 30-odd scholarships
from primary to tertiary were offered and two additional schools are
slated to benefit from the Schools Library Upgrade programme.
KINGSTON BOOKSHOP makes donations and offers special rates to many schools
and charities for special events and activities.
KINGSTON BOOKSHOP pledges to maintain its good customer relations with
Jamaican students, teachers and the wider community and its commitment
to nation building.
Each year, during the back-to-school season, the wider public stands
a chance to win special prizes in the company’s Back-to-school
competition. Prizes may vary from year to year but one thing is certain:
they are valuable to the winners. Pictures update.
